Strategy

The purpose of the pollution control and risk management section is to co-ordinate and support the provision of  an integrated and sustainable environmental health service in the Ethekwini Municipality in order to achieve an optimum health and quality of life outcome for the community.

Objectives

• Development of informal food retailers in the preparation of safe food
   
• Air quality monitoring for industrial and traffic emissions
   
• Development of permits for large scale industries
   
• Integrated input into EIA and planning applications to reduce pollution
   
• Integrated input into MHI applications to reduce risk to exposed communities
   
• Co-ordination in the provision of sanitation to informal communities 
   
• Facilitation of clean, green and healthy programmes to raise the awareness of environment and health linkages
